first_imgAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Webber says Norwich must stay level-headed this seasonby Paul Vegas11 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveNorwich City football chief Stuart Webber says they must stay level-headed this season. The Canaries have shocked Manchester City, before being thrashed by Aston Villa.Webber told the club’s website: “We can’t get too high and we can’t get too low, so after we beat Man City we can’t walk round and convince ourselves that we’re going to win the Premier League this season. Likewise, we can’t lose at two incredibly tough places to go in Crystal Palace and Burnley and against Aston Villa at home with all the problems that we had and then want to jump off a cliff.”We’ve got to stay level, that’s the supporters as well. I personally thought it was a little bit flat on Saturday, even when it was 0-0. I don’t mean when it was 5-0, because listen I appreciate people want to go home at 5-0 and do their shopping or whatever, but we can’t take it for granted that winning games in the Premier League is easy. It’s not, because if it was everybody would be doing it.”We’ve been on a tough journey to get here. We climbed Everest last year and we’ve gone back down to the bottom to try to climb it again. That was always going to be hard and what we can’t do is lose our nerves after a couple of bad games. Likewise, we can’t go to Bournemouth and win and think we need to get into Europe.” last_img read more

Kentucky Has An Interactive Billboard On I-65 For Tweets That Include Hashtag #BlueGetsIn

first_imgInterstate 65 is a major highway linking parts of the Southeast with the Midwest.. The road runs through four states –Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana–before stopping in Gary, Ind., just southeast of Chicago. The undefeated Kentucky Wildcats basketball team traveled on I-65 to get to Indianapolis, the site of this year’s Final Four. Alongside I-65 is an interactive billboard featuring UK-themed tweets containing the hashtag #BlueGetsIn. Some of the tweets featured were from freshman star Karl-Anthony Towns and the official team Twitter account. This is awesome, but we hope someone is curating those tweets and it’s not an automated feed. Left in the hands of the Twitterverse, that could get really ugly.last_img read more

Arsenal warned £40m transfer kitty ‘isn’t enough’

first_imgArsenal have been warned that their supposed £40 million ($50m) summer transfer budget “isn’t enough”, with Robert Pires claiming that “a lot of money” needs to be spent by the Gunners. Those at Emirates Stadium are preparing for a third successive season without Champions League football.Unai Emery could only deliver a fifth-place finish in the Premier League during his debut campaign, while the Spaniard also suffered Europa League final heartache against Chelsea. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? The hope was that more disappointment in north London would lead to a loosening of the purse strings, but that appears unlikely to be the case.Arsenal will once again be favouring a frugal approach to recruitment, much to the frustration of a loyal fan base and former stars with the club’s best interests at heart.Ex-Gunners forward Pires told reporters of the mindset being adopted: “I read that Arsenal have a small envelope for transfers, only £40m. My opinion is that it isn’t enough.“If you want to build a good team, you need to spend a lot of money, especially in the Premier League.“I respect Arsenal’s position and the owner, but everybody knows that if you want to win the Premier League, you need to spend a lot of money.“All the top clubs want to sign great players, but if you want a great player it costs a lot of money.”Sokratis Laurent Koscielny Arsenal Chelsea Europa League final 2019If Arsenal are to once again keep themselves out of the market for big-money deals, then Pires believes they should be piecing together long-term plans. The Frenchman feels moves for emerging talents with the potential to be shrewd additions for the present and future could be the way forward. He added: “After getting his first season out of the way after replacing Arsene Wenger it’s a new era for Arsenal and for Unai.“Unfortunately we lost Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck. Maybe we need to rebuild, make a new team, and why not with the young players?“I hope some young players come through into the first team. Freddie Ljungberg did very well with the Under-23s and won the league.“We have good young players and the right man heading the academy in Per Mertesacker.“So maybe the solution, if Arsenal have only £40m, is to bring in some young players and prepare for the future.”One player of considerable promise currently being heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal is St Etienne defender William Saliba, with the Gunners said to have reached an agreement with the 18-year-old.last_img read more

‘Pogba & De Gea should stay at Man Utd’

first_imgJuan Mata hopes David de Gea and Paul Pogba will both ignore ongoing transfer rumours to remain at Manchester United.Speculation surrounding the future of De Gea has been swirling since the turn of the year, with his current deal at Old Trafford set to expire in 2020.Talks over an extension have stalled in recent months, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful the 28-year-old will commit his future to the club before the start of the new season . Pogba, meanwhile, expressed a desire to take up a new challenge earlier this summer, with Real Madrid and Juventus thought to be interested in securing his services .However, the Frenchman has made a strong start to United’s pre-season campaign and Solskjaer has identified the World Cup winner as a candidate to become the team’s next captain.Mata feels that both men’s continued presence in the starting XI will be vital to United’s chances of success next term, labelling Pogba as “a good influence for everyone” and De Gea “the best goalkeeper in the world”.The Spanish midfielder began by discussing Pogba’s importance on Sky Sports: ” We all know Paul and he is a fantastic midfielder, and a very good guy, very positive, and a good influence for everyone.”I think he is happy and brings everyone together, but I cannot speak for other people – I speak for myself.”As a team-mate and a friend I would like him to stay and be happy because he is a very good player for us.”David de Gea Manchester United Home Kit 2019-20Mata then praised fellow-countryman De Gea, who has reportedly attracted attention from Paris Saint Germain during the summer transfer window. He added: “David is the best goalkeeper in the world and one of my best friends so I want him to stay.”On a professional level, it would be great if he stays because he will give us many points over the next season, so I’m very happy if he stays.”The Red Devils won their opening match of the International Champions Cup 1-0 against Inter on Saturday, thanks to a superb Mason Greenwood finish late in the game.United also triumphed against Perth Glory and Leeds during a tour of Australia earlier this month, with a showdown against Tottenham up next on Thursday.Solskjaer’s men will open their latest Premier League campaign at home to Chelsea on August 11, before taking in a trip to Wolves a week later.last_img read more

Report: Real 3-7 Atletico

first_imgDiego Costa scored four goals as Atletico Madrid humiliated LaLiga rivals Real Madrid 7-3 in an incredible display at the International Champions Cup.Atletico showed no mercy in New Jersey, where Diego Simeone’s men led 5-0 at half-time thanks to Costa’s first-half hat-trick on Friday.Big-money signing Joao Felix scored his first goal since arriving from Benfica and set up two others, while Angel Correa was also on target in a sensationally one-sided first half at MetLife Stadium. But Atletico netted their fourth on the stroke of half-time after Costa completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot following Isco’s foul. 46′ | 0-5 |  ¡Empieza la segunda parte en el @MetLifeStadium#AúpaAtleti #AtletiSummerTour #ICC2019 pic.twitter.com/a4DxLunwUI— Atlético de Madrid (@Atleti) July 27, 2019Atletico did not take their foot off the pedal in the second half – Felix and Costa continuing their frightening combination as the former split Madrid’s defence with a delightful pass and the former scooped the ball over Keylor Navas in the 51st minute.Eden Hazard was virtually non-existent in first half, but the Belgian star showed a flash of brilliance to help Madrid pull a goal back on the hour-mark, crossing the ball into the six-yard box for Nacho to bundle the ball over the line. There was a flashpoint five minutes later when Costa and Carvajal were both sent off after the pair and both teams came together as tempers threatened to boil over.It got worse for Madrid after Vitolo won the ball from two defenders on the half-way line and beat another two opponents before finding the back of the net following a stunning solo run with 20 minutes remaining.Atletico were hungry for more and they should have scored another two or three goals but some desperate goalkeeping and defending denied Los Rojiblancos, while Benzema and Hernandez added goals for Madrid late in the game. read morelast_img read more

Despite recently joining the culture in Norman, the veteran quarterback is already embracing the program’s best rivalry. The Sooners have aspirations to win the Big 12 once again this upcoming season, which will require taking down the Texas Longhorns. Tom Herman’s offense will revolve around Sam Ehlinger, meanwhile Lincoln Riley will have to build his unit around another transfer at quarterback.Losing Kyler Murray will definitely have an impact for Oklahoma, but adding an experienced signal-caller that has made three trips to the College Football Playoff should help.Fortunately for Oklahoma, Hurts is acclimating well to his new program and cementing his status as a member of the Sooners.Hurts spent time with his future teammate Spencer Rattler over the weekend, as the two posed for pictures. Both quarterbacks wasted little time throwing shade in the direction of Texas by throwing up the “Horns Down” gesture. Here is the photo:Jalen Hurts is a quick learner. Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick fires Juventus into quarter-finals

first_imgChampions League: Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick fires Juventus into quarter-finalsCristiano Ronaldo blasted home the decisive goal from a penalty with four minutes left to seal a 3-2 overall triumph for Juventus.advertisement Next Reuters TurinMarch 13, 2019UPDATED: March 13, 2019 08:55 IST Ronaldo took his tally against Atletico to 25 goals in 33 matches in all competitions (AP Photo)Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a hat-trick against his favourite opponents Atletico Madrid as the Italians overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit to win 3-0 and reach the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.Ronaldo blasted home the decisive goal from a penalty with four minutes left to seal a 3-2 overall triumph having made the breakthrough in the 27th minute and levelled the aggregate score three minutes after halftime with another towering header. It was his eighth hat-trick in the Champions League, pulling him level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, and took the Portugal international’s tally in his favourite club competition, where he is the all-time leading scorer, to 124.The former Real Madrid player, aiming to win the Champions League for the sixth time with his third different club, having also lifted the trophy with Manchester United, took his tally against Atletico to 25 goals in 33 matches in all competitions.”This was why Juventus brought me here, to help do things that they have never done before,” said Ronaldo, now 34. “This is the mentality you need to win in the Champions League.”Shell-shocked Atletico failed to muster a shot on target as they paid the price for an ultra-cautious approach by defensive-minded coach Diego Simeone in the last-16 second leg tie.”Simply an epic match,” said Juve’s Giorgio Chiellini. “The best way to celebrate my 500th appearance for the club.”RONALDO HEADERDefender Chiellini had the ball in the visitors’ net after just four minutes following a goalmouth scramble but it was disallowed for foul by Ronaldo on goalkeeper Jan Oblak.advertisementThe Serie A side bombarded the Atletico area with crosses but made little headway against a packed defence until Federico Bernardeschi switched to the left and floated a cross to the far post where Ronaldo outjumped Juanfran to head in.With Atletico making little effort to look for the away goal that could have changed the complexion of the tie, Juventus continued to press forward.Bernardeschi curled a free kick over the crossbar and also produced an ambitious bicycle kick which flew wide before Chiellini had a header tipped over by Oblak.Atletico’s first real chance fell to on-loan striker Alvaro Morata who got between two defenders to meet Koke’s cross from the right only to head over.Juve went straight back on the attack after the break and quickly levelled the aggregate score at 2-2.Ronaldo met Joao Cancelo’s cross with another powerful header and although Oblak clawed the ball away, goal line technology showed that it had crossed the line by centimetres and the referee signalled a goal.Atletico brought on Vitolo and Angel Correa in an attempt to add more bite to their attack but to no avail. With extra-time looming, Bernardeschi powered into the area and was pushed in the back by Correa, leaving Ronaldo to blast home the penalty to the delight of the Juve supporters. For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Kohli scored a crucial 35 as India went on to complete a successful 275-run chase against Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium.advertisementVirat Kohli, who is among the fittest sportspersons in the world, has often spoken about how a poor Indian Premier League season in 2012 and the horror run in England in 2014 were big learning curves in his career.Kohli has never had dull moments in his international career after the 2014 series in England wherein he managed 134 runs in 10 innings. The India captain made amends for it by topping the batting charts when India went to England in 2018. Kohli hit 593 runs in 10 innings and smashed 2 hundreds as welll.Virat Kohli took over from MS Dhoni as the Test side’s captain in 2014 and has led the team to major victories in the recent past. While India gave South Africa and England a run for their money in 2018, Kohli’s men became the first Indian team to win a Test series in Australia when they completed a 2-1 win Down Under earlier this year.Kohli has also been breaking records at will across all formats. With 68 hundreds, Kohi is just 32 behind Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of 100 hundreds. Meanwhile, Kohli, the top-ranked batsman in ODIs and Tests, became the first batsman to score 20.000 runs in a decade.Virat Kohli is gearing up to lead Indiia in the inaugural Test Championship, starting August 22 with a 2-Test series against West Indies. ‘The Art of Leaving’: Gavaskar got it right, Kapil Dev didn’t but what about Dhoni?

first_img Next ‘The Art of Leaving’: Gavaskar got it right, Kapil Dev didn’t but what about Dhoni? The continued suspense over Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future has revived the debate on whether the biggest icons in Indian cricket know when the time is right to bow out of the scene gracefully.advertisement Press Trust of India MumbaiSeptember 23, 2019UPDATED: September 23, 2019 16:51 IST MS Dhoni is unlikely to be available for India assignments even in November. (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSMS Dhoni made himself unavailable for selection for West Indies tour and South Africa seriesThe former India skipper is likely to extend his break til NovemberSunil Gavaskar earlier said Dhoni should be going without being pushed outA few get it right but quite a few others struggle with the timing when it comes to the dreaded ‘R word’ in the star-spangled firmament of Indian cricket. The continued suspense over Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future has revived the debate on whether the biggest icons in Indian cricket know when the time is right to bow out of the scene gracefully. The 38-year-old Dhoni has been on a sabbatical for more than two months now and is unlikely to be available for India assignments even in November. But there is no word on whether he plans to call it a day from international cricket despite a clamour for it.”It’s highly unlikely that Dhoni will be available against Bangladesh (away series). In BCCI, we prepare a 45-day match schedule (international and domestic), training, anti-doping whereabouts chart for all senior and A team cricketer. There is nothing marked against Dhoni,” a BCCI source told PTI.It has been learnt that Dhoni is also not going to play the Vijay Hazare National One-Day championship for Jharkhand which starts tomorrow.”I think he (Dhoni) should be going without being pushed out. We need to look beyond Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He, at least, doesn’t figure in my team,” Sunil Gavaskar recently said as an expert on national television. But then Gavaskar had always walked the talk as a cricketer. No one did it better than Gavaskar, who played one of his finest innings in his farewell Test against Pakistan, 96 on a Chinnaswamy “snake pit”, where the ball jumped and turned square.advertisementIt was 1987 and Gavaskar was 37 but with his impeccable technique, could have well played till the tour of Pakistan in 1989.But no one knew the “art of leaving” better than Gavaskar, whether on 22 yards or off it. He knew he didn’t enjoy it anymore even though he could have still performed banking on his muscle memory. As the cliche goes, one should retire when people are asking “why” rather than “when”, which late Vijay Merchant had once put so succinctly. But not every great cricketer had a sense of timing like Gavaskar.Kapil Dev, one of the greatest ever to don the national colours, was a pale shadow of his old self, after the tour of Australia in 1991.There was a record in sight and Kapil continued despite loss of pace. The then skipper Mohammed Azharuddin would bowl him for a few overs and then go back to his spinners. There was a feeling in the Indian cricket fraternity that Javagal Srinath, one of the fastest bowlers of his time, lost three years of Test cricket at home as the establishment didn’t know how to send the message across to Kapil.”You start playing at the age of 10, may be make your debut at 20 and go onto play till 35. That’s 25 years of your life doing just one thing. You have earned money, your finances are in place but suddenly you don’t know what else you are good at. It’s not about money but about life’s larger picture,” a senior India cricketer, who himself is at crossroads, told PTI.While trying to contact eminent cricketers, one could understand why everyone is cagey while talking about “timing of retirement” as far as Dhoni is concerned.Gavaskar has addressed the “Elephant in the Room” as far as BCCI and the selection committee is concerned but that’s not the case with Dhoni’s contemporaries. Most of them, who don’t wish to be quoted, agreed that it is more to do with that one final hurrah that makes them push for it.”Many times you are dropped and you feel angry. You want to prove a point. You want to retire from the ground. You want your Sachin Tendulkar moment, albeit in a smaller way but with the feeling of warmth and sense of achievement. No one wants that silent goodbye. We live in a bubble and are not adjusted to a quiet self,” said another recently-retired cricketer. If Gavaskar got it totally right and Kapil got it awfully wrong, there are certainly a few, who could read the tell-tale signs when they were nearing an end.Sourav Ganguly, after those tumultuous years under Greg Chappell, had a great last two years in Test cricket, but when he announced his retirement prior to the 2008 Australia series, one could gauge that he didn’t want another trial by fire from the selectors under a new Test captain — guess who? Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was on Dhoni’s suggestion that Ganguly and Rahul Dravid were dropped from the ODI side on account of being slow runners between the wickets.advertisementIf it came to reading the signals, Dravid was even better. In 2011, he was suddenly called back into the ODI side in the wake of a good Test series show.A veteran of many battles, Dravid didn’t let the Krishnamachari Srikkanth-led committee control his fate and announced that the ODI series will be his last in the limited overs format.Six months down the line and one bad Australia away series later, he knew he had nothing left in the tank even though he wouldn’t have been dropped. For Sachin Tendulkar, it was absolutely different as he wasn’t getting those hundreds but was still looking good and scoring runs. The erstwhile chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil later confessed that they did want to have a fresh outlook in ODIs and conveyed the message to Tendulkar, which prompted him to first retire from ODIs in December, 2012.Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were two players, who took time to fathom that Indian cricket had moved beyond them and overstayed their invitation.Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been a huge servant of Indian cricket. But as Sushant Singh Rajput, the reel Dhoni said in the blockbuster ‘Untold Story”, “We are all servants and we are all doing national duty. Also Read | MS Dhoni should go without being pushed out: Sunil Gavaskar to India TodayAlso Read | MS Dhoni unavailable for selection until NovemberFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. ATK capitalized on a free-kick given for a foul on Jayesh Rane by Jeakson Singh. The set-piece into the box was cushioned back for McHugh by Agustin García Iniguez at the far post. The Irishman went on to slam a brilliant first-time volley with his left foot that gave Bilal Khan in the Kerala goal no chance whatsoever. With the wind in their sails from an early goal, ATK continued to press Kerala relentlessly and fashioned several chances to double their lead, the best of which came in the 22nd minute. Roy Krishna embarked on a sizzling run from midfield, going past a couple of Kerala defenders into the box, but opted to slide it for Javier Hernandez rather than shoot himself and the ball trickled away.advertisementA rattled Kerala were handed a lifeline into the game when ATK winger Michael Soosairaj went down in the box under Sergio Cidoncha’s challenge. But the referee waved away the protests and Kerala won a corner from the ensuing counter-attack.That set-piece would produce the equalizer for Kerala. Ogbeche saw his looping header from the far post come back off the upright, only for Pronay Halder to pull down Jairo Rodriguez who was about to slot it in. The referee awarded the spot-kick and Ogbeche made no mistake in beating Arindam Bhattacharja to lift the spirits of the home support. The Men in Yellow started to enjoy more time on the ball following the equalizer and stormed into the lead just before half-time. Pronay failed to clear a low cross from Prasanth Karuthadathkuni and the loose ball was driven in smartly by a lurking Ogbeche.Kerala continued their ascendancy at the start of the second half as well, keeping the ball well and forcing errors from ATK.However, Krishna continued to threaten the Kerala defence, although his finishing let the visitors down. In the 69th minute, the Fijian was sent through on goal but a sliding tackle from Jairo meant the chance went begging.Shortly after, Krishna saw another shot from close-range blocked away by substitute Mario Arques. But Eelco Schattorie’s team held their nerves and fashioned a few chances of their own. Ultimately, they saw off the game quite comfortably to start their campaign on a winning note.(ISL Press Release)Also Read | ISL 2019-20: Full schedule, fixtures, date, time and squads listAlso Read | Premier League: Spurs struggle, Chelsea, Leicester into top 4For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. A Taste of Peru in Brooklyn

first_img 10 Destination-Worthy Food Halls Throughout the U.S. The Manual Podcast Celebrates 100 Episodes With a New Name How 2 Brooklynites are Reviving an Iconic Midwestern Supper Club Editors’ Recommendations 15 Best Subscription Boxes for Men Who Love Gifts Feasting is our column dedicated to cooking, grilling, eating and discovering what’s on the menu across America and the world.Anyone who’s super into the restaurant world right now will tell you Peru is currently one of the most exciting places to eat on earth. Especially in the country’s capital of Lima, some of the most innovative chefs in the world are putting their restaurants on the map right next to the culinary heavyweights. So can imagine how excited we were when Chef Erik Ramirez, formerly of Eleven Madison Park, took the reigns at Williamsburg, Brooklyn newcomer Llama Inn.Inspired by childhood summers spent in Lima, years of classic French training and the seasonality of New York ingredients, Ramirez’s menu is inspired by the culinary melting pot that is each city. You’ll find traditional ceviches next to not-so-traditional ingredients like the burrata that beautifully compliments a purple potato salad. The kitchen’s Japanese grill turns out a number of antiuchos, skewers filled with things like octopus and beef heart. And you can’t leave without having a cocktail from the restaurant’s killer bar, helmed by beverage directors Lynnette Marrero and Jessica Gonzalez. We chatted with Chef Ramirez to learn more about what’s cooking in the Llama Inn kitchen and where he likes to eat after hours. You grew up in New Jersey but have Peruvian roots. What are some of your favorite, earliest memories of eating in Lima?Every summer, we used to visit my grandmother in Lima in a district called San Borja. She was an amazing cook, but the first thing I always wanted to eat when I got to her house was salchipapas from this lady with a food cart right down the street from her house. Salchipapas are a mixture of hotdog and French fries served with a few different sauces – it’s Peruvian street food. There was always a line but it was worth the wait and super cheap, like 3 soles, which is not even a dollar. She served the fries and hot dog over shredded lettuce and doused it with salsa gulf, which is mayo and ketchup mixed together, and aji verde, a spicy green sauce. My mom always told me not to eat there because I was going to get sick, but I couldn’t resist. Before opening Llama Inn, you worked in Manhattan kitchens like Raymi and Eleven Madison Park. How has the fine dining environment inspired your take on the Peruvian food at Llama? It gave me a different perspective and approach to cooking. It helped me elevate it.Related: Rider Brooklyn modernized the dinner & a show experienceThe menu is built for sharing with both small plates and some large format options for two. Is this the way it’s done in Lima, or would you say sharing culture is more of a New York thing at the moment? For me, it’s the best way to eat because I’d rather share my enjoyment for/of food than keep it all to myself. It’s how it’s done in Peru and a lot of other places – it’s all about family and friends, and we always share. Peruvian people are very proud of their cuisine and they always want people to know how delicious it is, so we share. You also have a Japanese grill in the kitchen, used to make the anticucho skewers. What made you want to incorporate this element? It’s the best way to grill right now because it imparts great flavor. We use very special charcoal, which has a lot benefits to it.After the kitchen has closed, what are some of your favorite neighborhood places to grab a late-night bite or cocktail? For late-night bites, Zona Rosa, St. Anselm, Tacos Morelos, Brooklyn Star, Commodore, Ramen Yebisu, Williamsburg Pizza, Hana Foods and Lilia if they’re still open. For cocktails, Donna, The Richardson, Dram, Night of Joy, Hotel Delmano, Pete’s Candy Store, Maison Premiere and Lilia.
